New school year kicks off for staff
Posted on 09/02/2015

The school year began this morning for district staff with a celebratory inservice that featured highlights of last year’s successes and a look toward challenges ahead.

Beginning with a short music set led by Dr. Marty Palacios, and featuring members of his family, every year the staff inservice mixes motivation, inspiration and humor.  This year’s theme was a mixed movie metaphor, combining “Mission Impossible” with “The Wizard of Oz.”

The event included staff service recognitions with 20-year pins to Susan Heitz, Karen Lightner, Mark Renalds, Melissa Terrill and Heidi Vollmer; 25-year pins to Kevin Emmert, JoAnn Horne, Scott Johnson, Michele Kelsch, Judy Peterson, Debra Rose, Cindy Schroeder, Tammie Snyder, Melanie Turnbull and Debbie Vickers; 30-year pins to Jim Carman, Cathy Carnahan, Leslie Johnstone, Betty Morgan and Cecil Scitern; and a 35-year pin to Robin Shaw.

The school board also attended, including a special “Mission Impossible” rappel entry from the ceiling by board chairman Dr. Scott Schieber.

The event concluded with recognition and remarks for Pam Canady, Rotary Teacher of the Year, and Dr. Kris Olsen, Oregon High School Principal of the Year.

Selected clips from a video with students talking about various teachers was part of the event, as well.
