Duniway students hear about careers during annual career fair

Duniway Middle School hosted professionals in more than a dozen fields for its annual career day for eighth graders.

The goal of career day is to expose students to a variety of careers and help spark their curiosity for particular jobs that they may be interested in the future. Students heard about work opportunities and experiences from 16 professionals in their fields. Speakers were asked to share how education helped prepare them for their career, what they love about their job and the path they took to their current position.

The following people made presentations to students:

Lucetta Elmer: Entrepreneur, Poseyland

Kelly Hurl: Nurse

Corey Medeiros: Computer engineer

JP Kloninger: Business owner and fitness expert

Maria Olsen: Investment advisor

Brian Fox: Web design

Emma Judd: Hair stylist

Jon Gross: First American Title

Brook Persoon: Sound engineer

John Ross: Recruiter, Portland Trailblazers

Cindy Holmes: Sign language interpreter

Thea Gahr: Artist (pictured)

Doug Cummins: Police officer

Kyle Olsen: Executive assistant in a federal prison

Mark Carlson: Youth pastor
