Preschool for four-year-olds in the McMinnville School District (MSD) is offered in morning or afternoon sessions at Sue Buel, Newby and Wascher elementary schools.

The programs run Mondays - Thursdays with the morning session from 8:15 - 10:45 a.m., and the afternoon session from 11:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Future MSD kindergarten students in this program will learn school routines and participate in kindergarten readiness activities in literacy and math. Each site includes morning (beginning with free breakfast) and afternoon (beginning with free lunch) sessions. The program follows the MSD school calendar with the exception of starting one day later and ending one day earlier.
Because the district believes that it is extremely important to have parents involved in their child’s preschool experience, participation requirements for the program include:
  • At least one family member must volunteer a minimum of 2.5 hours a month to the program.
  • At least one parent/guardian must attend the three birth-to-five READY! for Kindergarten parent workshops, scheduled Thursday evenings throughout the school year. Dates for 2019-20 include October 17, 2019; January 23, 2020; and April 23, 2020.  Click here for more about READY! for Kindergarten.

McMinnville School District does not receive additional funds to provide this free program to four-year-olds.The district is committed to early childhood education and hopes to sustain the preschool program; however this decision is made annually based on state and federal funding.

Sixty percent of our preschool slots will be reserved for students in families who experience limited income consistent with USDA income guidelines for free or reduced meals (click here for guidelines). The remaining slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Español
