High School Instructional Technology Specialist Veronica Chase (right) has been named McMinnville High School’s assistant principal for 2016-2017 school year.

Chase began her career in McMinnville School District as an ELL assistant at Patton Middle School; later she completed her licensure work  to become an ELD teacher and  taught English Language Learners at Patton Middle School from 2006-2011. Prior to her current position, Chase served as an Instructional Coach supporting teachers throughout the district providing professional development in Constructing Meaning, PSET, RCD, Data Teams and more.

Sue Buel principal Stephanie Legard will take over leadership for the district’s STEM (science technology engineering and mathematics) initiative beginning school year 2016-2017. Prior to becoming an administrator in the McMinnville School District and in addition to having classroom teaching experience, Legard has taught at the college level. Legard’s strong math, science and instructional background makes her the perfect candidate to lead the implementation of the district’s new math adoption, the upcoming science adoption and to take on many of the K-12 engineering and robotics coordination  responsibilities (including STEM grant management requirements) previously facilitated by Tony Vicknair, new MHS principal.

Legard will play a role in supporting the arts which will result in magnifying this role to encompass STEAM leadership (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). Through Legard’s leadership and in conjunction with a talented staff, Sue Buel Elementary was named “Model School” for three consecutive years and is considered a school “beating the odds” as measured by student performance relative to school demographics. Legard was also named 2014 Oregon Principal of the year and National Distinguished Principal.
