Hispanic PTA of McMinnville

The McMinnville School District’s Hispanic PTA was formally organized in the fall of 2006 in an effort to promote better communication and understanding between school district officials and members of the Hispanic community. The committee helps to fulfill state and federal requirements for parent involvement in planning decisions in school districts such as McMinnville that participate in federal grant programs—such as the Title III English Language Learner program and the Title I-C Migrant program.

The committee, comprised of 10-14 volunteer members, helps to organize district-wide informational presentations in Spanish, which are designed to help parents become more informed about district expectations for all students, and to better equip parents to support the academic success of their children. Committee members also spend time supporting student activity clubs, and organize fund raisers for a new college scholarship to benefit Migrant and Hispanic students.

The committee was originally formed with support from the office of Migrant Region 16 in Salem, with the goal of including as many parents as possible who qualify for the federal Migrant program. The committee tries to recruit at least one parent representative from every school, in order to best represent the ideas and opinions of all the families served by the district.

The Hispanic PTA normally meets monthly from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the McMinnville School District Conference Center, 135 E. Booth Bend Road.
