Welcome to Kindergarten

alt=""In May 2019, the McMinnville School District launched “Welcome to Kindergarten,” a program designed to provide all district pre-kindergarten children and their families with information, resources and experiences that will build a foundation for learning and smooth transition to school. The sessions also focus on building ongoing and dynamic family-school partnerships to foster student success.

Sessions offered to date include

“Awesome Activities to Help Your Child Develop Early Number Concepts” – An intuitive sense of numbers begins at a very early age. This workshop invites the whole family to participate in engaging, hands-on number activities that will make learning math fun!
“Easy and Fun Ways to Build Your Child’s Vocabulary” – A strong vocabulary helps foster understanding, communication and reading ability. This workshop engages families in simple activities that can help build vocabulary.

“Healthy Kids Starting Strong” – Motor skills and nutrition are important for children’s growth, independence and cognitive development. This workshop offers family activities that foster gross motor development and healthy eating habits.

“Nurturing Your Child’s Writing Skills” – covers the everyday writing experiences in kindergarten and illustrates how parents can help enrich and enhance these and other literacy skills at home. The workshop offers parents a range of tools and techniques they can use to help their children continue to build writing skills with fun and easy activities to do at home and on the go.

“Kindergarten Transition Camp” – This four-day camp helps new students become acquainted with their new schools and gives them a head start on meeting other students and learning about what a school day will be like.

The project is funded by a grant from Mid-Valley Parenting.
