Emergency test message

Emergency communications test coming Wednesday, October 10 at 10 a.m.
Posted on 10/02/2018

When snow, ice or other conditions affect school operations, the district communicates in a number of ways.

Every fall, the district sends out test messages to ensure contact information is correctly recorded for student families.

On Wednesday, October 10 at 10 a.m., all student families should receive test messages via SchoolMessenger.

If you do not receive a test message, please contact your student’s school office to update your emergency information.

The primary way the district communicates emergency information is via SchoolMessenger. (The district also uses FlashAlert, but the service is best used by families who have students on buses that use snow routes or those who need to know about school closures before 6 a.m.  To learn more about FlashAlert, click here.)

This year, the district is adding a SchoolMessenger text messaging capability, which will require families to opt-in.

To opt-in to the service, simply text “Y” or “Yes” when the test text arrives.  If you do not opt-in, you will not receive future text messages. If you do not initially opt-in, but later decide you would like to receive the messages, you can opt-in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587.

While families may not opt out of emergency notifications, they can choose how they receive messages about normal communications from their child’s school.  (Note:  attendance is grouped in the emergency category because of student safety considerations.)

If you would like to choose how you would like your student’s school to contact you about events such as Back to School Night, conferences or other non-emergency related communications, click here to set preferences. (Note: you will need to log in with the email address you provided on your student’s registration.)  Click here to find out more about SchoolMessenger notifications.

A letter is coming home this week in student backpacks that outlines all the ways that families can receive notifications when school is closed or delayed. Click here to read the letter (English/Spanish).
